Brewery Ommegang, Scarsafava to be recognized by Chamber

Lawyer John Scarzafava and Brewery Ommegang will be honored by the Otsego County Chamber of Commerce at its annual awards dinner this March.

Brewery Ommegang will be presented with the Otsego County Chamber of Commerce NBT Bank Distinguished Business of the Year Award.

“Brewery Ommegang is so pleased to receive this honor. We’re incredibly fortunate to live and work in a community as wonderful as Otsego Country,” said Simon Thorpe, President and CEO of Brewery Ommegang and Duvel USA in a release from the Chamber. “We are honored to include Cooperstown, N.Y., on every bottle of beer we distribute and to share a little piece of our wonderful community with the country and the world.”

Scarzafava, an attorney with Scarzafava & Basdekis Law Firm, will be given the Eugene A. Bettiol, Jr. Distinguished Citizen Award. This award, established in 2002, is given to an Otsego County citizen who has made a long term impact on the region and given back to the community with their business.

Scarzafava has been involved with many local service activities including The Pit Run, the United Way Campaign, Boys and Girls Club, and Otsego County Family Services.

The Scarzafava & Basdekis Law Firm is based in Oneonta, and recently received the highest ranking awarded to a personal injury law firm by U.S. News & World Report.

The 28th Annual NBT Distinguished Dinner and Celebration of Business, where Scarzafava and Brewery Ommegang will be honored, will take place in the Hunt Union Ballroom at State University College at Oneonta on March 28. The theme of this year's banquet will be "Think Local First," which is the name of a campaign that the Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce and Otsego County Chamber of Commerce have been collaborating on to increase recognition for Otsego County businesses.

For reservations, call the Otsego County Chamber of Commerce at (607) 432-4500 Ext. 207.
