Summer has been busy at the home

(Continued)

There was an Ice Cream Social for residents, families, friends and staff in celebration of our renewed registration as an Eden Alternative home. The Eden Alternative is an international organization whose philosophy fosters a home environment that is a true habitat for humanity, encouraging life-long learning, close-knit community, and honors the wisdom, talent, goals and simple pleasures of those who live and work within. The award is an honor and we are  one of three recipients in New York.

We celebrated Jaclyn Mac Donald’s graduation as an LPN and held a baby shower for her first baby, due in the fall. One of the residents commented that they can hardly wait to have a baby join our family! Our second Olympics  were held coinciding with the two weeks of the International Olympics. We held numerous games that tested our mental and physical acumen. The favorite event for residents and staff was balloon volleyball! Residents requested weekly matches because it was so much fun. We ended the week with an awards ceremony and some of us are still wearing our medals.

“Never underestimate the power of dreams and the influence of the human spirit. We are all the same in this notion: The potential for greatness lives within each of us.” — Wilma Rudolph
