— Tom Hickey, the President of the Cooperstown Hawkeys, the new team that will compete in the New York Collegiate Baseball League this summer, was the guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Cooperstown Lions Club at its meeting on Wednesday, April 7, held at the Harmony House Cafe in Fly Creek.
Hickey was introduced by Lion David Pearlman, who is also a member of the Hawkeyes management. Hickey gave a short PowerPoint presentation outlining the evolution of the project and describing his intentions for the team.
``We hope to give the Cooperstown area inexpensive baseball in an atmosphere where parents will love to bring their kids,’’ he said.
Following the presentation Hickey, who is a professor of Criminal Science at SUNY Cobleskill, answered questions regarding housing the players, advertising and sponsorship for local businesses, Hawkeyes educational programs, and team goals, as well as ticket prices and volunteering or working for the Hawkeyes come June.
The presentation was arranged by Lions Bill Senif and Scott Bonderoff, the club’s program chairmen.
