In the spring we held a workshop to create a shared vision of a summer program that would provide meaningful and enriching experiences. Residents and staff partnered to brainstorm creative ideas, then a planning committee of residents and staff worked out the details to organize and schedule the events from June through August. We’ve had many enjoyable and actionpacked days, and our journey will continue in August.
Nancy Rackmyer led Bird Watcher’s Field Trips that were both educational and scenic, and often ended with ice cream! A 10-week old Shar-Pei puppy named Sophie visited us thanks to Janet Saporito. We enjoyed the lovely summer scenery with drives in the country and visits to Otsego Lake.
We also delighted in summer music concerts at the Otesaga Resort Hotel and Lakefront Park.
We spent many days on the porches enjoying the sunny weather and camaraderie while sipping ice tea and lemonade. One day we played croquet on the side lawn as cars slowed to watch our game, some asked if they could join us.
We enjoyed the Fourth of July parade followed by a picnic at the home. On July 7th we watched the fireworks from the porch of the Otesaga Resort Hotel. What a spectacular view of the lake! We held a summer picnic at Otsego Lake for residents and staff, and the cooks prepared all our favorite picnic foods, even s’mores, with marshmallows we toasted over the fire. We recognized staff for their contributions and length of service, from 1 to 30 years.
We enjoyed 90th birthday parties for Ralph Veenema and Alberta Bowes. It was so much fun to see the home filled with friends and families to celebrate these special birthdays. We also celebrated birthdays with Leon Rathbun, Ruth Swart, Wally Pickhardt, Fannie Navarra, and Ginger the cat. Staff birthdays included Jackie Renwick, Megan Ames, Dee Bouck, Mary Butler, Donna Runcorn, Frank Miller, Kate Sentz, Chrissy Karpowich, Jan Scrafford, Mary Nolan, and Ireland and Jameson Gable.
