Home Notes: Watching everything come to life at the Thanksgiving Home

— The last few weeks of April have been wonderful; watching everything come to life. On our Eden bulletin board residents, staff, and visitors were asked ``What do you wish for this spring?’’

Some of the comments asked for sunshine, warm weather, good health, happiness, and world peace for all. Remember something special for each day. What made you laugh, smile, or feel loved. Some words used by residents were life, warm, warmth, joy, robins, freshness, sunshine, swimming, flowers, beautiful, sap, happy, green grass, dirt, growth, rebirth, and robin eggs. Everyone has been enjoying the warmer weather. Going for walks and sitting on the porches.

The residents have enjoyed having some special visitors and helpers here: Lauren and Luke Miller (Frank Miller’s children), Elle Kenyon (Susan Kenyon’s daughter), Jamie Zoltick (Elle’s friend) and Ireland and Jameson Gable (Deanna Gable’s children). They have helped with different activities, visited with different residents and helped staff. Everyone enjoys having these young people come to the Home.

The residents continue to enjoy the different activities at the Home.

Making comfort bears, Fun and Fit exercise classes, exercises in the Wellness Room, Art Class with Fred Blatt, and reading the newspaper for current events. Susan Kenyon, activities director has been reading aloud ``The Shell Seekers’’ by Rosamunde Pilcher to the residents.

Carol Affourtit, personal care aide brought in several gardening books for residents to look at. Soon the outside garden will be planted with flowers and some vegetables.

Dottie Bly brought some beautiful yellow forsythia from her home.

Anna Zorawska, personal care aide brought in some white serviceberry from her home that are also beautiful.

Nancy Rackmyer, LPN, brought a movie in for resident to watch ``Sacagawea Lewis & Clark: core of discovery’’ for bird watchers group on April 22. Nancy talked about Junco birds which stay year round in this area. The residents saw pictures, a video on birds, and read aloud about the birds with a discussion.

April Happy Birthday wishes go out to the following residents and staff: Wanda Noyes, Doris Blomquist, Art Laidlaw, Julia Gil, Ellen Hankin, Darcey Schilling, Kristen Hext, Kathy Lindberg, Judy Pooler, Laura Black, Chris Hickling, Sheila Jones, and Sandy Brigham. What a big group of birthdays and what a great month to be born in!

The Home is working on the renewal of our registration as an Eden Alternative Home. We had two wonderful gatherings with residents and staff to work on a survey. Frank Miller, facilities manager, led the gatherings. It was great to have so many residents and staff attend. We had a lot of good discussions about the Home.
