Home Notes: Another busy week at the Home
As I entered the activity room, residents were hard at work making comfort bears for the hospital.
Our Home seamstress, Ruth Swart, was busy sewing patterns while Bunny Laidlaw, Pat DeBaun, and Wanda Noyes stuffed them. Each bear took on its own personality.
Home Notes: Residents enjoyed a great summer at the Home
We are still luxuriating in the warmth of one of Cooperstown’s finest summers. Our memories will have to hold us through the winter months, or perhaps that is our excuse for lingering over picnics on the patio and sipping our special mix of lemonade and iced tea while sitting on the porches in the afternoon.
Book Notes: Burnett's book recalls 'Golden Age'
It’s a shame that today’s young generation missed the golden age of television from the 1960s and 70s. The fact that Hollywood studios with their ``original’’ ideas of constantly remaking hit TV shows from that era into new movies and reunion specials is quite telling. Even Fox with its ``That 70’s Show’’ is a reminder of that whimsical time.
Home Notes: A place to cherish
As we enter into the middle of summer, let us pause and relish in the fact that we have been blessed with such lovely weather.
Home Notes: Personal Care is a rewarding occupation
When I was a young girl in the early 50’s my family would often take rides through Cooperstown and the Cherry Valley area.
Home Notes: A busy month at the Home
Never a dull moment!!!! I don’t know where to begin. We have had a very busy June so far. Each day includes planned activities and many `surprise’ activities as well. One of our newest and most popular activities (except for Happy Hour) is the Surprise Activity.
Home Notes: 'Everyone knows your name'
The Clara Welch Thanksgiving Home, just like that once-popular television drinking establishment, is a place where everybody knows your name.
Home Notes: Thanksgiving Home features hat show
``Cock your hat _ angles are attitudes.’’ _ Frank Sinatra We celebrated the end of April with a Straw Hat and Sun Bonnet Show. Residents and staff wore hats of all shapes, sizes and colors as we gathered in the living room to enjoy strawberry shortcake and share stories of our hats. The stories included where the hats were purchased, special occasions when they were worn, and many fun and humorous tales.
Home Notes: Watching everything come to life at the Thanksgiving Home
The last few weeks of April have been wonderful; watching everything come to life. On our Eden bulletin board residents, staff, and visitors were asked ``What do you wish for this spring?’’
