Too Many Divas to take stage for benefit show

By MICHELLE MILLER
Staff Writer

MILFORD — This Saturday local singing group Too Many Divas will take the stage for a benefit show for the Greater Milford Historical Association.

According to diva Janet Lampo, the show was planned more on the spurof- the-moment than most of the Diva’s shows, but said all the women are happy and excited to be involved. Fortunately, all but one of us was available, she said.

We have never done a benefit quite like this so we are not quite sure how many people will turn out for the event or what to expect, said Lampo.

``It will be a surprise to all of us,’’ she said. The curtains will open at 7:30 p.m. at the Susquehanna Cultural Center on Route 28 in Milford. The show will be followed by a dessert buffet.

Too Many Divas, which has been a singing group for five years, consists of five women 50-years-old or older. Performers include Mary-Jo Merk, Carol Dean, Michelle Gardner, Claudia Koeppel and Lampo, all who have some sort of involvement in music and theater.

Lampo said the group has performed in locations such as Oneonta and Fly Creek. The Divas also do conventions and are willing to travel, according to Lampo. According to toomanydivas.com, the women participate in celebrations of all kinds including fundraisers, holidays, retirements, birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, divorces, class reunions, roasts, luncheons and dinner theatre.

Lampo said the group’s performances typically feature songs from the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s with Motown moves, madcap humor and smooth harmonies. However, she said the group is working on a new Broadway performance the women hope to have up and going by the New Year. According to Lampo, she and fellow her divas get together to rehearse twice a week. Each show is uniquely designed according to need, she said.

According to organizers, Holiday songs will be added to this show to celebrate the season.

Information on the group can be found at toomanydivas.com. Reservations for Saturday’s performance can be made by calling 286-7038 or 435- 4658.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students 12 and under.
