---- — Parkeon, the company that makes and operates the parking meter software used by village vendor Access Technology Integration, Inc., sent a letter of explanation to Cooperstown Mayor Jeff Katz on Monday about last Thursday’s meter failure.
“Please be assured that this is not a regular occurrence with the Parkeon system,” the letter reads. “Our meters operate at a 99.9 percent uptime around the country.”
The problem was caused by a server outage in the morning that shut down all of the Parkeon meters in the region. Machines could not take credit cards for several hours, but according to the letter, were still able to take coins. ATI technicians were dispatched to Cooperstown. They responded by switching the machines off line and by 12:30 p.m., the machines were able to take credit card payments again. The server problem was fixed by Friday morning.
Parkeon is a New Jersey company that has systems in more than 3,000 cities including New York, Philadelphia, Miami and Seattle. ATI, based in Troy, won the bid on the village’s 13 pay and display meters based on its association with Parkeon and its home office being close enough to Cooperstown to ensure quick responses to problems.
“We appreciate the opportunity you have provided us and we will work hard to ensure that your system works smoothly from here on out,” the letter concludes.
