---- — Otsego Dance Society’s monthly contra dance will be held Friday, April 5. O’Shanigans will provide, the music and the caller will be Casey Mullaney. The dance will be held at the Presbyterian Church in Cooperstown.

O’Shanigans, from Ithaca, is made up of multi-instrumentalist Phil Robinson playing guitar, fiddle player Tim Ball and jam-leader Mike Ludgate on mandolin. While originally created for a St. Patrick’s Day event, they play American and Celtic fiddle tunes as well as dance music from France, Sweden and the Middle East, according to a media release from the Society. Mullaney is a recent Hartwick College graduate who began calling there and has extended her experience throughout upstate New York.

Contra dancing is a traditional New England dance form that is social and easy to learn, according to a media release. All ages are welcome and no partner or experience is necessary. All dances are taught, with more instruction for beginners during the earlier dances.

Dancing will begin at 8 p.m. and continues until 11 p.m., with a short refreshment break. Suggested donation is $8 for adults, $4 for students and teenagers and free for children 12 and younger. The Presbyterian Church is on the corner of Pioneer and Church streets.
