---- — Students from six local school districts will be advancing to the state Odyssey of the Mind competition after first-place finishes at Saturday’s Region 13 tournament.

Forty-five teams throughout the DCMO and ONC BOCES service areas competed in the regional tournament, held at Delaware-Chenango-Madison-Otsego BOCES’ Harrold Campus near Trout Creek. Teams ranged from Division I, for elementary school-age students, through Division III, for high school students.

Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem-solving educational program for children from kindergarten through college age. This year’s “problems” include “Driver’s Test,” in which teams are to design, build and drive a vehicle that can travel an obstacle course and complete specific tasks; and “It’s How We Rule,” in which teams are to re-create a king’s court from history and present a performance that includes music and puppets. Teams from around the United States and about 25 other countries participate in OM and vie to compete in the Worlds tournament.

Results from Saturday’s tournament are as follows. First-place teams will have the chance to take part in the state competition in April at Binghamton University. For more information about the regional OM program, visit dcmoboces.com/webpages/enrichment.
