Area restaurants, caterers and community members will be donating the soup and bread for the event. The restaurants and caters donating soup are: Alex & Ika Restaurant, Cooley’s Stone House Tavern, Cooperstown Diner, Doubleday Cafe, Fly Creek General Store, Jackie’s Restaurant, Jive Cafe, LM Townsend Catering, Nicoletta’s Cafe, the Otesaga, Toscana’s and Tunnicliff Inn. Danny’s Market will donate bread for the event as well as several community volunteers.
There will also be a raffle featuring merchandise from area businesses. Some of the raffle prizes were donated by: Brewery Ommegang, Carefree Gardens/Origins Cafe, Cooperstown Distillery, Cooperstown Natural Foods, Cooperstown Wine & Spirits, Nail Club and Sal’s Pizzeria.
Empty Bowls is a national movement that was started in the 1990’s by potters who wanted to raise funds for their local food pantry.
“The bowls that you get to keep are meant to remind you of hunger every day that you use them,” Drerup said.
