---- — The Cooperstown Art Association will open a new reception tomorrow using the art of local students.

The opening reception for “An Artistic Discovery” will be from 5 to 7 p.m. in gallery A at 22 Main St., and the exhibit will run through March 28. The exhibit will feature art from the Congressional Art Competition for Otsego County High School Students.

The exhibit is sponsored by Friends of Music and Art (FoMA), a music and art support group formed to encourage and strengthen music and arts education within the Cooperstown Central School District.

Six students will be receiving ribbons for their work at the CAA and a digital image of their artwork will be submitted to Congressman Chris Gibson’s office for final selection in the next phase of competition.

One student’s work will be displayed in the corridor leading to the U.S. Capitol along with forty-nine other high-school artists’ work from across the country.

Last year’s winner was Lauren Loucks, a student at Cherry Valley-Springfield.

The gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday through Saturday and Sunday  from 1 to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed on Tuesdays.
