The State University College at Oneonta will partner with the Oneonta World of Learning to present NanoDays 2013, an afternoon of activities designed to educate the public about the science of nanotechnology.

Now in its third year, the hands-on activity fair is part of a nationwide festival of educational programs about nanoscale science and engineering organized by the Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network.

All are welcome to participate in Nano Days, which will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday in the lobby of SUNY Oneonta’s Science I Building on Ravine Parkway. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.

Guided by student volunteers from the college, children will be able to explore nanotechnology through a variety of activities, including:

• Completing a nano-sized scavenger hunt and earning a goody bag

• Investigating the relationship between society and technology

• Playing with “smart” metals

• Trying on an invisibility cloak

• Making a color-changing bracelet

• Meeting a supervillian from the future in the theatrical production, “Attack of the Nanoscientist.”

In conjunction with the event, SUNY Oneonta will offer three free planetarium shows throughout the afternoon. This year’s show will be “Life: A Cosmic Story,” a high-speed ride through the history of life, produced by the California Academy of Sciences and narrated by Jodie Foster. Tickets for the planetarium shows are limited. To sign up for tickets, visit the Science Discovery Center’s website ,www.oneonta.edu/academics/sdc.
