---- — Single tickets to all 2013 Glimmerglass Festival mainstage productions and special events are now available for purchase. The Glimmerglass Festival presents new productions of opera and musical theater every summer.
The 2013 Glimmerglass Festival mainstage productions are Wagner’s “The Flying Dutchman,” Lerner and Loewe’s “Camelot,” Verdi’s “King for a Day” and “Passions,” a double bill of David Lang’s “a little match girl passion” and Pergolesi’s “Stabat Mater.” The productions will run July 6 through Aug. 24 in the Alice Busch Opera Theater. Tickets start at $26 and youth tickets, for those ages 6 to 18, start at $10 when accompanied by an adult.
According to a media release from the Festival, mainstage productions are supplemented by special performances, concerts and lectures throughout the season. Eric Owens, last year’s Glimmerglass Festival artist in residence, will perform with members of the Glimmerglass Festival Young Artists Program on Aug. 2. Christine Goerke will present “A Wagner Celebration” on Aug. 11, singing selections by the German master and other signature roles. In addition to performing in “Camelot,” artists in residence Julie and Nathan Gunn will perform an afternoon of favorites from the European romantic repertory on Aug. 18. Tickets for these concerts range from $25 to $50 and are $10 for youths.
ShowTalk, the festival’s lecture series with visiting scholars and artists, features presentations ranging from Tobias Picker and David Lang on writing for the contemporary American stage to expert discussions on “The Flying Dutchman” and American Romantic painting. Tickets are $25 and $10 for youths. Following her sold-out appearance in 2012, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will return Aug. 9 for a special expanded program in the theater, bringing together her knowledge of the law and passion for opera, according to the release. Tickets are $35 and youths are $10.
The Glimmerglass Young Artists, singers in the company’s apprentice program, will present a fully staged performance of “Camelot,” at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 23in the Alice Busch Opera Theater. Tickets are $25 and $10 for youths.
Guest artists and members of the Young Artists Program will perform in Meet Me at the Pavilion, a series of special performances by featured artists, musicians and members of the Young Artists Program. Tickets range from $10 to $20 and are $10 for youths.
Subscriptions are still on sale in two-, three-, and four-show packages. Tickets may be purchased at www.glimmerglass.org or by calling the company’s box office at 547-2255, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Glimmerglass’s Alice Busch Opera Theater is at 7300 State Highway 80 near Springfield Center.
