Selected to sing the "The Star-Spangled Banner" inside the Baseball Hall of Fame today for President Obama's visit is 26-year-old Eric Bliss of Middlefield.
His father, Dave Bliss, is the Middlefield town supervisor and a Republican who was invited to be one of the local officials attending the event.
"Short term and long term, this event will have a positive impact for Cooperstown and our region," Dave Bliss said. "People who don't necessarily watch baseball will be hearing about Cooperstown."
Eric Bliss sang the national anthem at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas, five years ago when he was a senior at Elmira College. Later that year, he sang the "The Star-Spangled Banner" as well as the Canadian national anthem to start the 2009 Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at the Clark Sports Center.
