---- — The Empire State Development’s Board of Directors, meeting in New York City last Thursday, approved $125,000 in funding to support an educational project at Milford Central School, a media release from the state said.

As a result of the governor’s Regional Economic Development Council Initiative, the Milford Central School District was awarded $125,000 through the Consolidated Funding Application process last year, and the announcement Thursday reflects progress toward fulfilling requirements to receive the funding, officials said.

The school district’s Career Opportunities in Rural Education, or CORE program, identified as a priority project in the Mohawk Valley Region, was among economic development initiatives funded with about $60 million in competitive awards last year.

The funding will leverage $325,000 in investments to upgrade CORE’s program to provide specialized workforce training and establish a platform for business and economic expansion in the region, the release said.

The $125,000 grant comes from the Economic Development Purposes Fund, which is administered by ESD, officials said.
