The British are coming to the 47th annual Cooperstown Winter Carnival from Feb. 8 to 10.
According to organizers, when the weekend arrives, Carnival-goers will be able to take advantage of a wide range of activities on the British Invasion! theme.
At 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will offer a free showing of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” as part of the Cabin Fever Film Series, sponsored by the Hall, the Fenimore Art Museum and The Glimmerglass Festival. For those looking for a more active diversion that evening, the Clark Sports Center will host a bowling tournament for adults and children. Cost will be $3 for members or $6 for nonmembers.
On Saturday, the public is invited to view or take part in “The London Parade” on Main Street at 11 a.m. Lake Front Park will host numerous activities, including “The Hounds of Baskerville” SPCA Dog Show and the annual Homerun Derby. Families can also participate in the Children’s Disco at the Cooperstown Fire Hall from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The disco is offered by the Brookwood School.
Saturday night’s entertainment will feature a Carnival favorite, as the old Agway building at 28 Railroad Ave. will serve as the host spot for the Monty Python Lip Sync from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. This contest is open to those 18 and older. To enter an act, download an entry form at the Cooperstown Carnival website and email it.
Beginning at 9 p.m., the village will come alive with live music during the “Rock the Cash Bar” festival as local bars feature live music until closing for those 21 and older.
Sunday’s offerings will include “Aston Martin” sled races at Lake Front Park at 10:30 a.m., the Bob Smullens 5k and 10k runs starting at Pioneer Park at 12:30 p.m., and Kid’s Karaoke from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge Building. From 1 to 3 p.m., the TREP$ Marketplace will be open for business at the Middle/High School Gymnasium.
