The Red Dragon Reading Series at the State University College at Oneonta will continue its 2012-13 series Thursday with a reading by Iranian novelist and literary scholar Shahriar Mandanipour.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Waterfront Room at the Hunt College Union. The reading will be followed by a reception and book signing.
Mandanipour, the 2006 recipient of Brown University’s International Writers Project Fellowship, is regarded as one of the most accomplished and successful writers in contemporary Iran. His honors include the Mehregan Award for the best Iranian children’s novel of 2004, the 1998 Golden Tablet Award for best fiction in Iran during the previous two decades, and Best Film Critique at the 1994 Press Festival in Tehran.
In 2011, Mandanipour returned as a visiting professor of literary arts at Brown University, where he currently teaches contemporary Iranian literature and modern Iranian cinema.
He is the author of nine volumes of fiction, one nonfiction book and more than 100 essays in genre such as literary theory, literature and art criticism, creative writing, censorship and social commentary.
