---- — This month’s Otsego Dance Society contradance will be on Friday, Dec. 7, at the Presbyterian Church in Cooperstown. The featured band will be Jane’s Gang, and Bob Nicholson will be the caller.
Jane’s Gang, led by Jane Rothfield, features her Southern-tinged fiddling with a bit of Celtic flavor, according to a media release from the society.
The Gang, a varying collection of musicians, typically is made up of Allan Carr on guitar,
David Kiphuth on banjo, and Geoff Harden on bass. They play traditional and original tunes. Find out more about Rothfield on her website www.janerothfield.com.
Bob Nicholson, a well-known caller from Syracuse, has been calling contradances since 1990 throughout New York, Pennsylvania and beyond. His love of dancing and easy-going style adds to his knack for selecting the right dance for the skill level of the crowd, the release stated. He is successful with beginner dancers, helping them to feel comfortable and have fun as they learn.
Contra dancing is a traditional New England dance form that is social and easy to learn. All ages are welcome and no partner or experience is necessary. All dances are taught, with more instruction for beginners during the earlier dances.
Dancing begins at 8 p.m. and continues until 11 p.m. Suggested donation is $8 for adults, $4 for students and teen-agers and free for children 12 and under. The Presbyterian Church is on the corner of Pioneer and Church Streets.
