In honor of the one hundred year anniversary of the Springfield parade, organizers have been planning a special parade and celebration at the Springfield Community Center for this fourth of July, with the addition of an evening concert and firework display at Glimmerglass State Park. Free commemorative booklets with a list of events and activities for the day as well as photographs and a history of the parade from the Springfield Historical Society are now available locally, and will be distributed at the parade and following celebration.
Individuals and organizations are welcome to participate in the parade; parade floats should reflect this year's theme which is "100 Years." Once again this year all registered decorated bicycle riders will receive a $10 prize. Trophies will be awarded for the best decorated.
Alumni band members from Springfield Central, Cherry Valley Central, and Cherry Valley-Springfield Central schools are invited to participate in an Alumni Marching Band led by retired music teacher Diane Graf. She can be reached at 264-3963. â
"100 Years" parade t-shirts are now available at Country Memories and Tom & Kelly's Convenience Corner, both located in Springfield Center. Registration for the 3rd annual 4th of July Quilt Show will take place on Saturday June 28th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the board room at the Springfield Community Center.
