Museums to host Homeschool Day

The Farmers’ Museum, Fenimore Art Museum, and the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum have teamed up to offer a day of hands-on learning for homeschoolers and their families.

Cooperstown Homeschool Day will take place on June 27.

Families visiting The Farmers’ Museum and Fenimore Art Museum will have the opportunity to guide themselves through the museums while participating in Museum Quest, a series of staffed drop-in learning stations. The grain to table station, for example, allows students to get close to five types of grain and process corn or wheat using equipment in the sweet-marble barn. The hides and horns station lets students touch some of the natural materials used to create the art found in the Thaw Collection of American Indian Art.

The interactive Museum Quest program gives students the chance to experience the museums in a whole new way. All stations are designed to help students explore the museums’ collections through standards-based activities in math, science, social studies, and language arts. Museum Quest is appropriate for students in grades K-12.
