Over the past few years the Town of Middlefield Historical Association has been raising money to purchase of a monument that would be dedicated to all those town citizens, past and present, who have served in the armed forces.
Through generous member contributions and local assistance the goal has been reached and the monument has been created.
A dedication will be held at noon Sunday as part of the annual TMHA Community Days celebration. Festivities will take place at the Old Schoolhouse in Middlefield. The ceremony is open to the public, all are welcome. Presenting the colors will be color guard units from Cherry Valley, Cooperstown and Milford. Honored guests include Congressman Chris Gibson and Assemblyman Peter Lopez. Director of Veterans Affairs for Otsego County Jack Henson, USMC (Ret.), will speak.
Additionally, TMHA is creating a book that will contain a brief biography of individual veterans from the Town of Middlefield. Anyone who has ever lived in the Town of Middlefield and has served in the military is asked to fill out a veteran’s information sheet available at www.middlefieldhistorical.org and mailing the completed form to: Town of Middlefield Historical Association, P.O. Box 348, Cooperstown, NY 13326.
Following the ceremony there will be music provided by The Small Town Big Band. There will be vendors for shopping and browsing, as well as food concessions. The schoolhouse and museum will be open.
