CCS senior, Vibbard, wins leadership scholarship

Ellen Vibbard, a June 2014 graduate of Cooperstown High School, is the recipient of the the Fourth Annual Leadership Scholarship. 

Vibbard will be attending SUNY Oswego with a major in hospitality/tourism.

The award ceremony is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on May 22 in the Louis Jones Center, The Farmers’ Museum.

Barbara Lang of B. Lang Consulting will be the keynote speaker for the event with “Presenting the Best of You.”

The community is invited and businesses are encouraged to send employees. 

Lang is a public speaker, etiquette coach and food entrepreneurship consultant with more than 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry. She is the author of “Restaurant to Retail: A Handbook for Food and Hospitality Professionals,” a practical guide for industry professionals seeking to gain the competitive edge by producing a branded food product.

Her career includes serving as a Napa Valley winery culinary director for 10 years, a lecturer and career adviser at Cornell University for 20 years, experience as a restaurant owner and current service with EGBOK Mission, a nonprofit in Cambodia where she guides a new advisory council and teaches young adults hospitality and life skills to help them secure sustainable careers and incomes.

Lang holds a degree in hotel administration from Cornell University and a master’s degree in professional studies in food marketing from Cornell’s Department of Applied Economics and Management.

She is an triathlete, world traveler, mother of two daughters and a cancer veteran.

In addition, the previous scholarship recipients Sarah Dewey, Rachael Forte, Christopher Harloff and Kayla Haggerty will be recognized.
