Despite mud and the occasional drizzle, Saturday’s Modest Mouse concert with special guest Brand New at Brewery Ommegang went well with the fans of both bands.
Additionally, the venue itself appears to have been a hit.
The day before, a special encore show with Modest Mouse featuring Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls, kicked off Brewery Ommegang’s 2014 Summer Concert Series.
Both concerts were sold out shows, with the Modest Mouse and Brand New show selling out within minutes this March. All concerts in the summer series take place on the grounds of Brewery Ommegang.
Rain earlier on Saturday resulted in large amounts of mud, both in the parking lot and in the venue. This didn’t deter the large crowds, however, that crowded around the stage. The brewery also attempted to alleviate the mud issue in the concert area by putting down hay.
The concert started at about 7 p.m., when Brand New took the stage. An alternative rock band from Long Island, the crowd at the brewery included many dedicated fans of the group.
“Brand New is the best band,” said Chelsea Heltai, who traveled from Washington D.C. to see them play. “I love seeing them. I’ve seen them a million times. They never disappoint,”
“I loved it (Brand New’s set),” said Lexi Tschaikowsky, who traveled from Bergen County, N.J. to see Brand New for the first time. “My friends are really big Modest Mouse fans but, I love Brand New. I always have.”
“Brand New killed it,” said Kevin Matthews, who traveled from Atlanta, Ga.
Modest Mouse also inspired people to travel long distances, with Robert Lambert driving an estimated seven ours from Columbus Ohio, after deciding to attend the concert that day.
“I came here specifically for Modest Mouse,” said Lambert.
