The Oneonta Community Concert Band will present its annual Salute to Veterans Concert, directed by Rene Prins at 3 p.m. Nov. 11, in the St. Mary’s Parish Center.
The concert will feature two vocal soloists, soprano Rebecca Sabin and bass Steven Markuson. Thomas Slavinsky will be directing two of the numbers to be performed.
The concert program will consist of the following pieces: “The Star Spangled Banner;” “The Freelance March ‘On to Victory;’” and “Overture Courageous.” The next two pieces, which will feature the soloists are “Stout Hearted Men”with Markuson singing with the band. The next piece will feature Sabin and Markuson singing “Will You Remember Me” from “Maytime.” These pieces were originally composed by Sigmund Romberg and arranged for vocalists and band.
Slavinsky will direct the next two pieces, “The American Red Cross March” and “Ballad for Peace.” Markuson will rejoin the band for “Army Medics March.” The band will continue the concert with the “Doughboy and Marine March” by Lt. Col. Chester E. Whiting, U.S. Army Retired. The band will be joined for the last three pieces by the soloists, who will sing “Over there-World War I Medley”; the “Armed Forces Salute;” and for the final piece “God Bless America” by Irving Berlin.
The concert is free and open to the public. St. Mary’s Parish Center is handicapped-accessible. Donations to help support the Oneonta Community Concert Band are welcomed.
