A celebration marking the 106th anniversary of Collier’s Dam and the creation of Goodyear Lake will be celebrated with a festival on Saturday.
Festivities will be held from 10 a.m. to dark. Daytime activities will take place at Krol Field at Lakeshore Drive South in Milford. The event is open to the public and co-sponsored by the Goodyear Lake Association and the Goodyear Polar Bear Jump.
The festival celebrates natural resources: The lake, the land and the spirit of community. Local organizations, including the Milford Rotary, Milford Legion and Milford Library will have booths. The National Kidney Foundation will sponsor a booth offering free blood pressure readings and finger stick glucose checks along with information on how hypertension and diabetes affect kidney function.
There will be games and activities for children and adults throughout the day, including art and environmental activities by the Oneonta World of Learning – a museum without walls.
At 10:15 a.m. the Goodyear Lake Polar Bear Jump will host a 5k Walk/Run (registration beginning at 9), with all fees to benefit the Goodyear Lake Polar Bear Jump fund, an organization dedicated to helping children, individuals and organizations in need. For more information, contact Melissa at 286-9879.
There will be a Classic Car Parade and Show featuring classic cars owned by Milford residents. A Children’s Parade will celebrate the joy of summer fun for children. This year Kimberly More of Saddle Up will offer hand-led horse rides to also benefit The Polar Bear Jump.
There will be exhibits and demonstrations featuring the Otsego County Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners, Allied Biological, Otsego County Conservation Association and Otsego County Soil and Water. There will be displays of locally made products providing an opportunity to see some new local small businesses that are reminiscent of the spirit of entrepreneurship.
