---- — The Glimmerglass Festival has announced its schedule for 2014.

In a release to the media, the festival said that it will be focusing on the music of the last hundred years for its 2014 season. In keeping with this theme there will be new mainstage productions of Puccini’s “Madame Butterfly,” Strauss’ “Ariadne in Naxos,” Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Carousel,” and Tobias Picker’s “An American Tragedy.” These shows will run in repertory from July 11 through Aug. 24.

A number of the festival’s complementary events will also explore the music of the 20th century.

One of the festival’s events this year will be a public masters class with Soprano Jessye Norman and members of the company’s Young Artists Program on Aug. 8. Artist in residence Christine Goerke, who is playing the title role in “Ariadne in Naxos,” will also be giving a concert on Aug. 15. Goerke was herself a part of the festival’s Young Artists Program more than 20 years ago.

2014 will also mark the third time Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has appeared at the Glimmerglass festival to share her perspective on law and the arts. This year she will do so in a program on July 19, which will feature both performance and commentary, as members of the Young Artists Program act out several scenes dealing with law and justice.

This year’s young artists will also get a chance in the spotlight on Aug. 3, when young artists will perform the principals roles in a performance of “Madame Butterfly.” Members of the program will also be performing a concert of bel canto favorites on Aug. 17.
