Since 1993, more than 94 million shoeboxes have been distributed worldwide to children in 100 countries, according to a media release. Often referred to as the “shoebox ministry,” shoeboxes from individuals, churches and communities are delivered to Main Street Baptist Church in Oneonta, the local drop-off site.

Military members’ addresses sought

The Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7128 in Cooperstown is seeking names and addresses of local servicemen and servicewomen stationed overseas. Each year, the Auxiliary sends gift boxes in November to arrive in time for the holidays. Current overseas addresses may be sent to Lyn Weir at P.O. Box 962, Cooperstown NY 13326, email Lyn@lynweir.com, or call 547-8886 by Nov. 15.

 

Harvest Festival Bazaar set 

  A Harvest Festival Bazaar will be held at the Cooperstown Presbyterian Church from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 17. There will be gifts for children, quilts, stuffed toys, cloth books, gifts for the home, and great ideas for Christmas decorations.

Photo contest under way

Otsego Land Trust and Otsego Lake Association are accepting applications for its 2012 photo contest “Water, Water Everywhere.” The contest is open to residents of Otsego County and neighboring towns. The theme is designed to emphasize the importance of water in the lives of people, plants and animals. Photos of streams, rivers, ponds, lakes, springs and wetlands from all over the Otsego County region are encouraged. Outdoor photos that depict the abundance of water in our region are eligible.

All entries must be received or postmarked by Dec. 31. Up to three photos may be submitted in one of three categories: Professional, Amateur, or Youth (age 16 or younger on Dec.). Only digital photographs in .jpg format will be accepted. Photographs may be sent electronically to marcie@otsegolandtrust.org, or disks may be mailed to Otsego Land Trust Water Photos, P.O. Box 173, Cooperstown, NY 13326 or dropped off at the Land Trust offices at Pioneer Alley, 101 Main St., Cooperstown, NY 13326.
