Students advance to state contest

Special recognition awards were given on women’s history to Amber Spear of Cherry Valley-Springfield for her exhibit on “Amelia Earhart” and to Keanna Schrag, MeKayla Brown, Abigail Oglesby and Tia Peck of Unadilla Valley for their group exhibit on “Title IX: The Game Changer.” An additional recognition was given on local history to Sara Nogaret of Unadilla Valley for her exhibit “New York and the Underground Railroad” for including Preferred Manor in New Berlin, which was once a stop on the Underground Railroad. 

This year’s competition was sponsored by the Catskill Regional Teacher Center. Awards, materials and additional support were made possible through contributions from Catherine Barr, writer and editor; the Unadilla Valley Central School District; Vicky Gregory, president of the Chenango County School Boards Association and Afton teacher; the SUNY Oneonta Secondary Education Department student teachers and a volunteers from the nationally designated historical village of Gilbertsville.
