CV-S names top students for Class of 2013

---- — Shawn Lowry, son of Gregory and Tracy Lowry of Springfield Center, has been named the valedictorian for the Class of 2013 at Cherry Valley-Springfield Central School. 

Throughout high school, Lowry has excelled in all his academic endeavors having taken the district’s most challenging offerings including three advance placement classes this year. He enjoys all learning while having an expressed talent in math and science. In addition to earning the rank of Eagle Scout, Lowry has provided leadership to the school community while participating in four honor societies. He is active in the high school and jazz bands, NYSSMA, is a member of the student council, is editor of the yearbook, is president of the French Club, is the treasurer of the Varsity Club, and a member of Ski Club, Nature Club, MYF Youth Group and varsity baseball. 

Lowry has been accepted at Clarkson University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Rochester Institute of Technology. The senior has matriculated at Clarkson University to study engineering.

Alexander Freehafer, son of Peter and Michelle Freehafer of Cherry Valley, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2013. 

Throughout high school, Freehafer has excelled in all his academic endeavors having taken the district’s most challenging offerings including three AP classes this year. Freehafer is a classic liberal arts scholar with a personal interest to study pre-med biology and economics. In addition to earning the highest average awards in trigonometry and physics, Freehafer has provided leadership and service to the school community while participating in four honor societies. He is captain of Brain Game, participated in Boys’ State and Varsity Club, is the vice president of French Club and Science Club, is a member of SADD and has been a Student of the Month. 

He is also participates in Ski Club, Tennis Club, CDYSL Travel Soccer and is a volunteer for the American Red Cross. Freehafer has matriculated at Colgate University as an early decision candidate to major in biology and chemistry. 

Graduation will be held  at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22 at the Glimmerglass Opera House.
