When a small town boy made the decision to chase the dream of becoming a big time star, he used his life experiences such as leaving home for the first time, falling in love and the emotional tie between a small town upbringing and big city living to form his future country hits.
This small town boy, David Nail, now a singer and songwriter, will perform at 8 p.m. Friday at the Foothills Performing Arts Center.
Growing up, Nail says he was influenced by the melodies of Elton John and The Beatles before switching his interests to country. Drawn to the idea of beginning his musical journey, Nail left his roots back in Missouri and headed for Nashville directly after high school. After arriving in Nashville, according to a media release, the artist was overwhelmed and returned home to re-group.
According to the release, Nail’s passion for sports and the little progress moving forward with his music led him back to Nashville by 2005. The release said he began working with a friend coaching the Twitty City Knights, a group of some of Nashville’s best baseball players.
“He says it helped him remove himself from the reality of his music career at that time and being around kids helped him to ‘recharge his batteries,’” the release states.
A short time later, Nail was introduced to producer Frank Liddell.
Through all the ups and downs in the music business, Nail had remanded persistent. His dream of making it became a reality in 2009 with the release of “I’m About to Come Alive,” a collection of songs that captures the highs and lows and the hometown flavor of his own experiences. The album produced three singles; two that reached the Top 20.
The singer, according to the release, is determined to bridge the gap between traditional country and the soulful stylings of a Lionel Ritchie and Ray Charles.
“David is one of those country artists that you just know is going to be huge, and this is an opportunity to see him up close and personal, at an affordable price, in a beautiful and intimate venue,” Terry Potter, owner of Millennia Entertainment who aids the continuing effort to bring in musical entertainment in the area, said in the release.
Nail will be performing hits from his second studio album, “The Sound of a Million Dreams.” It was released in 2011 and includes the No. 1 single “Let It Rain.” The song hit No. 1 on the charts in January 2012.
