---- — The Otsego Dance Society June contradance will be held on Friday June 7 at the Presbyterian Church in Cooperstown. The band will be Rosetree and the caller will be Peter Blue.

Rosetree, a Binghamton-area band, includes Amy Shapiro playing fiddle and nyckelharpa and Allen Lutins on guitar. After years of playing as part of the contradance group Wild Rose and the Thorns, members formed the duo Rosetree. The band plays Celtic, Americana, Eastern European, Scandinavian and other world folk styles of music.

Blue is well known as a caller and musician, playing in the bands Tunescape and Escape, and calling frequently at dances throughout the northeast, with many musicians including Jay Ungar and Molly Mason.

Contradancing is a traditional New England dance form that is social, easy to learn and lots of fun. All ages are welcome and no partner or experience is necessary. All dances are taught, with more instruction for beginners during the earlier dances.

Dancing will begin at 8 p.m. and continue until 11 p.m. with a short refreshment break halfway thorough.

There is a suggested donation of $8 for adults, $4for students and teens and free for children 12 and younger. The Presbyterian Church is on the corner of Pioneer and Church streets.

Dances are made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, which is administered by the Chenango County Council of the Arts, with support from Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the state Legislature.
