Volleyball gets big win
STAFF REPORT
The Cooperstown volleyball
team picked up its biggest win of
the year Friday night with a four
set win over Hamilton at Bursey
gymnasium.
``We played awesome volleyball,’’
said CCS head coach Rich
Jantzi. ``We probably would have
swept them but in the first game
I made a substitution error and
some of the players were lost.’’
The Redskins lost the first set,
10-25, Cooperstown bounced
back to win a tight second set,
27-25. They clinched the match
with a 25-14 third set win and 25-
20 victory in the fourth set. Prior
to Friday’s contest, Hamilton had
lost just twice this season, both to
undefeated Canastota.
Sawyer Graham had 13 kills,
five aces and four assists; Miranda
Menhinick 26 assists, five kills
and an ace; Laura Harmon 10 kills
and three aces; and Eryn Bass six
kills, three aces and two assists for
Cooperstown.
The game was also Senior Night,
and before the game senior players
Bass, Graham, Menhinick and
Liz Kennison (7 digs) were honored
along with their parents.
Cooperstown played in the Mt.
Markham tournament on Saturday,
but Jantzi said his tired team
didn’t have much left in the tank.
``I think we left it all on the floor
on Friday,’’ he said.
With the win over Hamilton,
Cooperstown improved to 10-6
on the season and has won five
straight heading to the regular
season finale on Monday, Feb. 1
at Sauquoit. Monday’s game will
be ``Think Pink’’ night at Sauquoit,
as they try to raise awareness for
breast cancer.
