CHERRY VALLEY — The Cherry Valley-Springfield boys track team will be making a run at a fourth straight Tri-Valley League and Section Four title this season, and have a veteran group returning to do so.

``We have many key members returning for their third or fourth varsity season,’’ said CV-S head coach Jordan Jaquay. ``We’re deep in the sprints, jumps, pole vault, and throws.’’

Seniors include distance runner Jason Guernsey; sprinter and long jumper Weston Johnson; pole vault and discus thrower Jesse Miller; sprinter Jordan Carter; sprinter and triple jumper Rob Schafsteck; and high jump and hurdler Calvin Hardy.

Junior Brian Sutton returns in the 200 and 400, and fellow junior Scott Sheldon in the hurdles and jumps.

Scott Chiba (pole vault) and Jon Graham (distance) were both in the Rotary exchange program last year, but return to the team this spring.

Sprinter and hurdler Braden Hanlon is another key addition.

Jaquay has 38 team members, and the season is set to begin Tuesday at Fort Plain. CV-S will return to the Cooperstown Invitational this season after a several year hiatus, and will host their own invitational on May 10. The CV-S girls team has also won the Tri-Valley title the past three seasons, and also won a Section Four Class D title last season.

Key returnees include sophomore Addy Schneider (sprints, jumps); senior Laura Kroon, a three-time Tri- Valley high jump champion (jumps, 400m);, freshman Joslyn Mabie (400m); junior Maggie Millner (distance); junior Fiona Doherty (distance); and senior Jenny Bowen (distance).

Key newcomers include freshman Mallory Garretson (distance); and eighth grader Ksenia Hanlon (sprints).
