CV-S baseball off to fast start

The Cherry Valley-Springfield baseball team continued its early season dominance with a 16-0 win at Morris Thursday in the Tri-Valley opener for both teams.

The Patriots, 3-0, scored 10 runs in the top of the first inning, aided by back-to-back doubles from Anthony Brant and Nate Herringhaw.

Almost every CV-S start had a hit, including two each for Spencer Staley, David Adams and Brant, who had two doubles.

Adam Halay picked up the pitching win, striking out 11 and walking two while yielding four hits over five innings.

``Morris is pretty solid defensively, but we came out hitting the ball well,’’ said CV-S head coach Ed Dubben, whose team has outscored its opponents 54-5 over the first three games.

Cherry Valley, the two-time defending Tri-Valley Champion, played at St. Johnsville Wednesday and hosts Sharon Springs Monday in the annual Adam Yerdon Memorial Game at 10 a.m. On Monday and Tuesday, the Patriots will host Schenevus and Milford in two key Tri-Valley East games.

Milford improved to 3-0 with a 25-4 non-league win over Downsville Thursday, their third straight win over a Delaware League opponent. Scott Seeley picked up his second pitching win, and Logan Griffiths had a triple and scored three runs.
