CHERRY VALLEY — The Cherry Valley-Springfield baseball team broke out of its midseason slump last week, and is just one win away from another Tri-Valley East title.

The Patriots beat T-V East foes Milford, 14-1, and Schenevus, 12-0, to improve to 8-4 overall and 5-2 in league play. CV-S plays host to T-V West leading Edmeston today (Thursday) at 4:30 p.m. and travel to second place Worcester on Monday. A win in either game will send them back to the Tri- Valley Championship Game for the fifth time in six seasons. ``We’re showing signs of coming around in all aspects of the game,’’ said CV-S head coach Ed Dubben, whose team had lost three straight before the Milford game.

``Everyone has been hitting well, we got two pitching gems, and made very few errors.’’ Against Milford, Adam Halay pitched a complete game, allowing four hits, while Nate Herringshaw had three hits, including a triple. David Adams, Spencer Staley, Zach Pecenak and Sam Dubben all contributed two hits for the Patriots.

On Monday at Schenevus, David Adams allowed one hit through five innings, and David Brant and Rich Rockwell each pitched a hitless inning of relief. Herringshaw continued his torrid hitting with a 3-for-3 day at the plate, including two doubles. Adams helped his own cause with two hits, including a triple, while Brant hit a two-run home run and Dubben added two doubles.

If CV-S wins one of its two final games, they will play Edmeston in the title game on Friday, May 23 at Oneonta State.

It would mark the fourth straight year the teams have met for league supremacy, with CV-S winning the past two years.
