Killibrew to speak at museum
Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew
will share memories from his
baseball career in a “Voices of the
Game” event at 7 p.m. on Aug. 31
at the National Baseball Hall of
Fame and Museum in Cooperstown.
Elected to the Hall of Fame in
1984, Killebrew is a 13-time All-
Star and the 1969 American League
Most Valuable Player. Killebrew
led the American League in home
runs six times during his 22-year
big league career with the Senators,
Twins and Royals, finishing
with a total of 573 home runs — a
number that still ranks ninth on
baseball’s all-time list.
During the program, Killebrew
will discuss his baseball memories
and participate in a question and
answer session with the audience
at the Hall of Fame’s Grandstand
Theater.
A ticket is required for this event
and costs $10 for adults and $5 for
children under 12. Members may
reserve tickets immediately, and
any remaining tickets will be available
to non-members on Monday,
Aug. 25, by calling the Membership
department at 547-0397.
In addition, Killibrew will be the
celebrity host at the 26th Annual
Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open and
Pro-Am Golf Tournament, which
will be held Sept. 2-5 at the Leatherstocking
Golf Course in Cooperstown.
The Pro-Am will be held Tuesday,
Sept. 2, at which Killebrew
will be the celebrity host.
The three-day 2008 Seniors
Open runs Wednesday through
Friday. The Seniors Open is one of
the country’s premier non-PGA
tournaments with a purse of
$100,000 - including a first-place
prize of $10,000 to be awarded to
one of the 138 golfers registered.
The presenting sponsors for the
2008 tournament are NBT Bank,
Coca-Cola Enterprises and Strategic
Financial Services, LLC, of Utica.
Tuesday’s Pro-Am will feature
approximately 32 teams. The staffing
of the teams features four amateurs
and one professional in a twoman,
best-ball format that begins
with an 11:30 a.m. shotgun start.
Proceeds from this traditional
post-Labor Day event benefit Pathfinder
Village, located in nearby
Edmeston, a residential community
dedicated to children and adults
with Down syndrome.
