MILFORD — The Cooperstown girls soccer team avenged a loss to Milford last year and opened the 2008 season with a convincing 5-1 victory in Milford Tuesday. Two new faces scored three of Cooperstown’s five goals, as Eryn Bass netted the first two and Molly Pearlman another. Laura Rowley and Laura Derouin rounded out the scoring, while Chandler Prouty scored Milford’s lone goal in the first half to make it 2-1. Cooperstown goalie Katie Wilhelm had 10 saves.

``It’s a great way to start our season,’’ said CCS head coach Jennifer Pindar. ``With a lot of new faces we played well together and played as a team.’’

The Lady Redskins will head to the Marcellus Tournament tonight (Thursday) and will play the hosts under the lights at 7:30 p.m. The consolation game is Saturday at 2 p.m. and the championship game is 4 p.m. Saturday. The other teams are Clinton and IHC.

Milford, which beat Family School in its opener last Friday, play another nonleague game at Margaretville today and open the Tri- Valley league schedule at Laurens on Monday. Milford is the four-time defending Tri-Valley East champion.
