Coop girls shutout, 1-0

The Cooperstown girls soccer team took a big overtime win over Mt. Markham last Thursday, but were shutout by Sherburne Monday to fall to 5-4 on the season.

Emma Ryanmiller scored the game-winner in overtime against the Mustangs, scoring a goal with just 20 seconds left in the first 10-minute overtime period.

The Lady Redskins led 1-0 at the half thanks to the first of two goals by Laura Rowley, but Markham struck for three second half scores. Molly Pearlman scored the other goal for Cooperstown, who are 3-1 in Center State Conference play.

``Mount Markham is a big win for us,’’ said Cooperstown head coach Jennifer Pindar. ``We played well as team and came together as a team to win in overtime. Against Sherburne, we had scoring opportunities but were just unable to get the ball in the net.’’

Cooperstown hosts always tough Herkimer for a league crossover game Friday, and then head to Edmeston Saturday for a 4 p.m. contest.

The defending Section Four Class D champion Lady Panthers are unbeaten and state ranked, and have a high scoring player in Kori Hamm, who already has 23 goals this season. Hamm scored three goals in a 6-1 win at Milford Tuesday in a rematch of last year’s Tri-Valley Championship Game.

The Cooperstown boys soccer team improved to 6- 2 overall with an easy, 12-0 win at Canastoa Tuesday. The Redskins, who are 4-1 in league play, travel to Frankfort today and play in the Davenport Tournament on Saturday.
