THE COOPERSTOWN CRIER
Noah Sims’ 20-yard field goal allowed visiting Cooperstown to take a three-point lead into the second quarter Saturday.
Soon after, the game was delayed for about an hour because of lightning. When things resumed, West Canada took control of the Section Three D East game and won, 31-3.
“We had a lot of emotion going in, and the next thing you know, we’re sitting in the hallway for a little over an hour,” first-year Cooperstown coach Mark Segina said. “We just didn’t have the intensity (when the game resumed). Plus, West Canada is a heck of a team. I was very impressed with how their line played.”
Jack Minasi had 158 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries for West Canada. His 1-yard run started a 19-point second-quarter. Quarterback Ryan Moody contributed a touchdown pass and a scoring pass.
Lucas Lyons had a team-high 18 rushing yards for the Redskins (1-1), who will play host to Dolgeville at 2 p.m. Saturday.
