The early lineup for the sixth edition of the Hall of Fame Classic is made up of three veterans and one rookie.
The Cooperstown shrine announced last week four of the six of the Hall of Famers who’ll participate in Hall of Fame Classic, a seven-inning exhibition to be held May 24 at Doubleday Field.
Classic regulars Phil Niekro and Ozzie Smith will return as team captains and managers. Rollie Fingers also will return.
Roberto Alomar, a 2011 Hall inductee, will make his first appearance in the Classic. A standout second baseman who played for seven teams during a 16-year career, Alomar finished with 2,724 hits.
The six Hall of Famers will be joined by more than two dozen former major league players, who will be announced in April.
The Classic, which was rained out last year, will start at 2:05 p.m. on May 24. It will be preceded by a parade at noon and a hitting contest at 1 p.m.
Tickets for the Classic are now on sale. The cost for first- and third-base seats is $12.50, and outfield seats are general admission tickets are $11. Ticket orders can be made by calling 1-877-726-9028 or by going online at www.baseballhall.org.
As part of the museum’s 75th anniversary, the participants in the Classic also will take part in the weekend’s events.
Hall of Fame Classic Weekend features events designed to promote interactivity between fans and their baseball heroes. Following the game, the Hall of Fame will hold its Night at the Museum program, which debuted in 2013. Hall of Famers and former players will greet fans throughout the Museum at 7 p.m. May 24. Legends participants will canvass the museum during the course of a two-hour event that includes special programs, interactions and moderated discussions.
