---- — All-tournament selection Christian Alexander scored a game-high 25 points, including five three-pointers, to lead host Cooperstown to a 64-40 victory over Fort Plain in the championship game of the Dick White Tournament.

Alexander, who finished 5-for-5 from three-point range, scored nine points in the second quarter, helping the Hawkeyes to a 35-18 lead at halftime.

“He’s got great post moves and he’s a great shooter from 15 feet and out,” Cooperstown coach Dave Bertram said of Alexander.

All-tournament selection Jordan Manikas led a hot start for the Hawkeyes, scoring 12 of his 22 points in the first quarter. Tournament MVP Park Summers contributed six points and 12 assists.

“We played real unselfish basketball and complemented each other well,” Bertram said. “Holding our composure today will definitely give us confidence going into the second half of the season.”

Aiden VanLoan and Jon Calbet paced Fort Plain with eight points apiece.

The Hawkeyes made the finals after an epic double overtime win on Friday in the opening round.

Park Summers’ team-high 23 points led Cooperstown to a 66-64 boys basketball victory in double-overtime Friday as the host Hawkeyes beat Cobleskill-Richmondville in the opening round of the Dick White Tournament.

Summers made a running layup along the baseline to tie the score at 58 at the end of the first overtime. Cooperstown went on to take a three-point lead before fouling C-R sophomore Keenan Loder with about two seconds to go.

“It was on a three-pointer, nonetheless,” Cooperstown coach Dave Bertram said. “It was a crazy game.”

Bertram called a timeout after Loder made the first free throw. Loder then missed the second and intentionally missed the third. Cooperstown rebounded the miss and held on until time expired to clinch the victory.

Loder finished with a game-high 25 points for C-R.

Jordan Manikas, who also had a buzzer-beating layup, finished with 14 points for Cooperstown. Grant Davine scored 12 points and Christian Alexander had 10 for the Hawkeyes.

Cooperstown (6-3) will play at undefeated Waterville this Saturday.
