Lawson's 33 leads Wildcats to Stamford title

---- — Addy Lawson scored a varsity-high 33 points, eight steals and seven rebounds to earn tournament MVP honors and lead Milford to a championship victory in the Stamford Tournament on Saturday.

The Leopards opened the second half with a 10-point advantage, but Lawson went on to score 27 points in the second half. Lawson sank three of her three-pointers after halftime as Milford outscored Laurens, 35-17.

‘‘We were a little more patient with our shooting,’’ Milford coach Jim Weir said of the second half.

Taylor Olmsted scored seven of her nine points in the fourth quarter for a spot on the all-tournament team for Milford (4-4), which hosts Gilbertsville-Mount Upton on Jan 8.

Charlotte Lee had a team-best 16 points for Laurens, who had all-tournament picks in Taylor Kessler (12 points) and Shalyn Tilley (six points).

On Friday, Addy Lawson finished with a game-high 20 points and six steals to lead Milford to a first-round win over Roxbury in the Stamford Tournament.

Lawson contributed eight points, including two threes, in the second quarter as the Wildcats outscored the Rockets, 22-7.

‘‘That gave us a nice cushion,’’ said Milford coach Jim Weir, whose team held a 34-16 lead at halftime.

Taylor Olmsted had eight points and a team-best seven rebounds for Milford (3-1, 1-3) which will face Laurens in the championship game at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Stacey Sprague scored a team-high 12 points for Roxbury, which will play Stamford in the consolation game at 4 p.m. Saturday.
