Robert Burton struck out 16 and walked one in a four-hitter to lead host Schenevus in the Tri-Valley League.

“He had the heat going tonight,” Schenevus coach Cory Craig said of Burton, who struck out 11 in two-hitting Worcester on Thursday. “He was my go-to pitcher last year and he’s starting off this year with a bang.”

Jake Kroll had 11 strikeouts in a two-hitter for Cherry Valley-Springfield.

Schenevus scored twice in the second inning to take a 2-1 lead. Taylor Roseboom singled and came around to score the second run of the inning on a bases-loaded walk.

Visiting Cooperstown managed four hits and struck out 13 times in a season-opening Center State Conference loss.

The game was called after six innings because of darkness.

Park Summers had a two-run single in the second inning and Ray Cabrera contributed an RBI single in the sixth inning for Cooperstown, which made six errors.

Cooperstown played West Canada Valley on Wednesday after deadline and host Herkimer on April 11.

Schenevus 11, CV-S 5

Dani Tefft held visiting Cherry Valley-Springfield hitless through five innings, leading Schenevus to a home victory in the Tri-Valley League.

Tefft struck out four and walked four before Sarah Mellor took over in the sixth inning.

Ali Turner started the scoring for the Dragons (2-2) with an RBI single in the first. Mellor doubled, tripled and drove in one run in a 2-for-2 effort.

Jessica Carson had two hits and two RBIs for the Patriots, who got a hit and an RBI from Jordan Zaccagnino.
