Tri-Valley East titles still up for grabs

Cooperstown Crier

---- — The Tri-Valley League’s soccer championships are nine days away, but it still remains to be seen who will represent the East Division in the cross-over games.

As expected, the East titles have come down to Milford and Cherry Valley-Springfield. Depending on this weekend’s games, they may be on the line Monday during the final scheduled games of the regular season. On the boys’ side, it may even come down to a playoff.

Milford boys will be at Cherry Valley, and the CV-S girls will be at Milford. Both games are scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

The home teams are in first place on both sides.

The Patriot boys were undefeated going into last night’s game after deadline at Worcester. CV-S (10-1, 10-0) beat the Wildcats 2-0 on Sept. 13 in Milford. CV-S is at Richfield Springs on Friday.

Milford (11-2, 10-1) beat Schenevus on the road on Tuesday. The Wildcats need to win at Worcester and against Cherry Valley Monday to force a tie. If those things happen, the two teams would play again in a one-game playoff, according to Milford coach Frank Spurchise. He said that game would most likely be on Oct. 16 or 17.

On the girls side, Milford leads CV-S but only by a half game. The Wildcats won at Cherry Valley 4-2 on Sept. 13. However Milford’s loss vs. Franklin on Sept. 16 and CV-S’ tie with Morris on Sept. 18, means that the winner of Monday’s game will win the division unless there is a huge upset before then.

CV-S (11-1-1, 9-1-1) hosts Richfield Springs today while Milford (11-1, 10-1) hosts Worcester tomorrow.

The TV cross-over games will be held on Oct. 19 at the Wright National Soccer Campus in Oneonta. As of press time it was still unknown who would represent the West in either game as well.
