---- — The 2014 Hall of Fame ballots have been sent out.

The ballots feature 19 new names, as well as 17 players returning from last year’s ballot. This year was the first year since 1996 that a candidate was not produced induction.

New players under consideration include pitchers Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux, Eric Gagne and Mike Mussina, outfielder and designated hitter Frank Thomas, second baseman Jeff Kent, and first baseman J.T. Snow.

Players returning to the ballot include left fielder Barry Bonds, right fielder Sammy Sosa, first baseman Mark McGwire and catcher Mike Piazza. This will also be the final time on the ballot for pitcher Jack Morris, who received 67.7 percent of the vote this year. 

A player must be named on at least 75 percent of the ballots cast to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Voting is done by members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Ballots must be returned with a postmark no later than Dec. 31. The results of this years voting will be announced on Jan. 8 on the MLB Network and the websites of the Hall of Fame and the BBWAA at 2 p.m.

Last year the top vote getter was catcher, second baseman, outfielder and seven time all-star Craig Biggio, who received 68.2 percent of the vote.
