---- — Not having a home field did not stop the Cooperstown Youth Baseball All-Stars.
The 12U team coached by John Lambert and Doug Lifgrin and 10U team coached by Scott Ubner and Phil Lewis set out to create a home tournament for the local teams.
Last weekend, the two teams played ball. The 12U team played at Beaver Valley Campground.
The under 12 team played the Unadilla Valley-Edmeston All-Stars in the title game. They won the first game 2-1. Cooperstown was losing 1-0 with one out in the bottom of fifth until Jesse Furnari manufactured a run to tie it. Then Jack Lambert scored in the bottom of the sixth on Ben Tafuro’s hit to win it in walk-off style.
In the second game against UV-E, Cooperstown won 7-4. Lambert pitched a complete game and Noah Lifgrin hit a triple off the fence.
The 10U All-Star Team played in Hartwick on the town’s ball field.
Cooperstown went into Sunday’s championship game undefeated. Cooperstown played Unadilla Valley-Edmeston 10U All-Stars. In the fourth inning, Christopher Ubner hit a triple to bring in Kendall Haney and Alex Poulson. Spencer Lewis grabbed a ground ball from center field and threw it to catcher Haney for an out at home plate. Cooperstown won the game and the championship, 5-0.
