---- — CCS to hold July 12 golf tourney

The Cooperstown Central School Athletic Hall of Fame will host a captain-and-crew benefit golf  tournament on July 12 at the Meadow Links Golf Club.

Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Cost is $55 per person (limit of 22 foursomes) and does not include cart fees. Carts cost $20.

Sign-ups will be taken until July 8. Checks should be made payable to CCS Athletic Hall of Fame and be mailed to Jack Vineyard, 445 Greenough Rd., Cooperstown, NY 13326.

Shoot for a Cure planned

The Cooperstown Sportsmen’s Association will sponsor a weekend of clay target shooting at its club facility. This event will he a fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society. All proceeds generated from the Shoot for a Cure, after expenses, will be donated to the fight against cancer.

The event will be held on Saturday and Sunday, July 13 and 14.

For those skeet shooters who are current members of the National Skeet Shooter Association and the New York Skeet Shooters Association, there will be the opportunity to shoot for registered targets on Saturday, July 13. Registered shooter registration will start at 1 a.m. for this two gun event; 20 gauge in the morning and 28 gauge in the afternoon. Entry fee of $30 per gun will be charged and all targets will be registered with the NSSA. No prize money will be awarded.

The open Skeet and trap segment will be held on Sunday, July 14, for those sportsmen who are not registered shooters. Skeet will be shot in the morning starting at 9 a.m. and trap will be shot in the afternoon starting at 1 p.m. A fee of $7.50 will be charged for each round of skeet and trap. As in the Saturday shoot, the proceeds, after expenses, will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

The Cooperstown Sportsmen’s Association is on state Highway 28, two miles west of Cooperstown. The clubhouse will be open at 7:30 a.m. and coffee will be available for both mornings. For more information, contact Ted Kantorowski at 547-5528 or Spike Boyd at 547-8141.

Fishing tournament set in Richfield Springs

The Richfield Springs Community Center will hold a fishing tournament on Canadarago Lake from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 21. Weight in is at 1:30 p.m.

Registration is $12 ahead of time at www.richfieldzone.org or $15 on the day of event from 5:30 a.m. to 7 a.m.

Fishing is open for bass (with a limit of three), pickerel, perch and walleye. There is a 25 percent cash payout, and 6.5 percent for each top species (or bag for bass). There is free lunch for all participants, free drawing for prizes and a 50-50 raffle.

Herkimer to offer summer youth sports camps

Herkimer County Community College is offering five summer sports camps.

The boys and girls soccer camp will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 8 to 12. The camp is for kids age 6 to 17 and costs $125 per camper. For more information or to register, contact Pepe Aragon at 868-7373 or pepe.aragon@herkimer.edu.

The boys and girls all sports camp will be held July 15 to 19. The camp is for children age 6 to 12 and costs $80 for one person, $140 for two, $200 for three or $260 for four. For more information or to register, contact Tom Basel at 866-8725.

The speed and agility camp will be held in two sessions for children age 7 to 17. Session I will be July 15 to 17 and Session II will be Aug. 5 to 7. Both sessions will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $75 per participant per session or $100 per family per session. HOF to hostAll-Star Gala

Baseball’s biggest stars will return to the museum’s big screen this month in Cooperstown at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum’s annual All-Star Gala.

Visitors will be able to watch the 2013 Major League Baseball All-Star Game live from Citi Field in New York City at the All-Star Gala at the museum’s Grandstand Theater on Tuesday, July 16. Fans can enjoy the game in ballpark seating as they watch Fox’s live television coverage of the 84th Mid-Summer Classic.

The Hall of Fame All-Star Gala provides an evening of family entertainment with prizes, snacks and more for baseball fans of every age. Doors to the Grandstand Theater will open at 7:30 p.m., with game coverage beginning at 8 p.m.

Fans will be treated to hot dogs and ballpark-style snacks, along with a limited edition commemorative All-Star Gala button for all guests in attendance. Scorecards will be distributed to fans, and official All-Star Game programs will be available for purchase. During the game’s inning breaks, fans will be able to compete in a variety of games and trivia contests for an opportunity to win door prizes. The All-Star Gala is made possible by the support of Price Chopper supermarkets.

Tickets to the All-Star Gala are now available to participants in the Hall of Fame’s Membership Program and cost $10 for adults and $5 for children. Tickets can be reserved in advance by calling the museum’s Membership Department at 547-0397 or by visiting the membership and museum services desk at the museum in Cooperstown. Any remaining tickets will go on sale to the general public on Monday, July 8.

Soccer summer camps open registration set

The 2013 Headwaters Soccer Club Summer Camp registration forms are now available.

This summer, the camp series will be celebrating 24 years of serving our area youth.

Seven camps will be held for boys and girls ages 7 to 17, and this year there will also be team camps. The camps will be offered for $60 per week with each participant receiving a T-shirt and water bottle. The camps will run weekdays 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Staff will include area college and high school coaches and college players.

The remaining camp dates are as follows: July 8-12, July 15-19, or July 29 to Aug. 2; Edmeston Central School, July 22-26; Oneonta State, Aug. 5-9.
