Viviano won his fourth tournament of the season. He also won titles at the Clyde Cole in Oxford, the Windsor Christmas Tournament and the Oneonta Rotary-Ross Cordell Tournament. He went 4-0 at the CNY, beating Jim Laurenzo of New Hartford, 4-2, in the final.
Four other area wrestlers had top-four finishes: B-G/A’s Jesse Griswold (132) placed second; teammate Tim Parsons (138) was third; and the Cooperstown tandem of Jacob Miller (145) and Mikey Boyle (120) finished third and fourth, respectively.
Jesse Griswold, who also won crowns at the Cordell and the Cole, lost his second match of the year. He was pinned by Mohawk’s John Mazza at 3:15.
Miller won his consolation match against Mohawk’s Tim Rathbun, 10-2.
Boyle lost to Windsor’s Nate Hayes, 2-1, in the consolations.
Nate Miller’s forfeit victory at 126 pounds gave visiting Cooperstown a 12-11 lead after four matches, but Herkimer went on to win six of the next seven for a dual-meet triumph.
Jacob Miller interrupted that streak with a second-period pin of Jake Wheet at 145 pounds for the Redskins, who closed the dual meet with back-to-back victories by Kevin Segit (decision at 220 pounds) and JP Gertz (pin at 285).
Mikey Boyle also won for Cooperstown, earning six team points with a second-period pin at 120 pounds.
