---- — Milford 4, Davenport 0

Addy Lawson scored two goals to lead top-seeded Milford to a Section Four Class D quarterfinal victory at home.

Hannah Saggese scored nine minutes into play on a free kick from 35 yards, and Milford took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

“Dipped an inch under the crossbar,” Milford coach Chris Saggese said of his daughter’s goal.

Sarah Haight had a chance to tie the score with 25 minutes remaining in the first half, when she received a free kick from 24 yards. Haight’s shot was denied by Milford goalie Rukiye Henderson, who made a diving stop to her right.

Lawson’s first goal came eight minutes into the second half. She scored to the near post from 7 yards off an assist from Kaley Chase.

Three minutes later, Emilie Mertz scored on a 9-yard shot to make it 3-0.

Lawson capped the scoring with 18 minutes remaining. She finished a high crossing pass from Saggese from 9 yards.

“Amanda Fish, Mataiah Waters and Serena Chase played outstanding defense on a very talented Davenport front,” coach Saggese said.

Davenport goalie Jayra Blanton made six saves — four more than Henderson. Milford held a 22-3 advantage in shots.

Ninth-seeded Davenport finished its season at 11-4-3.

CV-S 1, Franklin 0

Sarah Russo scored from close range following a corner kick by Jordan Loucks with 12:27 remaining to lift host Cherry Valley-Springfield to a Section Four Class D quarterfinal victory at home.

“There was a lot of congestion,” CV-S coach Amy Garretson said of Russo’s goal. “The corner kick went to the far post and Sarah scored from about 6 yards.”

CV-S stopper, Zane Ashford, suffered a broken collarbone with about 10 minutes left in the first half. Ashford, who was taken to the hospital, is out for the rest of the season.

Franklin, which represented Section Four in the state playoffs last season after beating Morris in a shootout in Class D final, was outshot, 15-5.

Jordan Beers made 14 saves for the Purple Devils (10-5-1).

“She’s an extremely athletic young lady,” Garretson said of Beers. “She kept them in the ballgame and did a fantastic job. We knew it was going to be a tough game with her in the goal.”

CV-S earned a 5-2 win over Franklin during the regular season.

“I think that gave us a lot more confidence that we could get by them again today,” Garretson said. “Every game is a new game, especially in sectionals. We had to bring our best game.”

Garretson added: “We’ll keep plugging along and focusing on the game ahead of us. Our goal was to get to Oneonta and hopefully, we’ll get there twice.”

The WNSC also will host the sectional final Nov. 2.
